     This hanging scroll 
portrays a group of deer 
gathered in the cold autumn 
woods.  Some of the deer 
stand quietly while others 
ramble.  A noble stag poised 
in the luxuriant forest with 
his resplendent antlers 
appears especially strong 
and virile.  The work seems 
to have been created under 
the influence of a foreign 
style.
